What Is the Difference Between a Job, an Occupation and a Career?

Often the terms “job”, “occupation”, and “career” are used interchangeably. However, in actual fact, these terms have quite different meanings so it is important to distinguish between these terms.

A “job”is work for which you receive pay. It is therefore a means to live and may or may not be long-term or lead to anything else by way of work. For this reason a job can be seen as one large task or a series of tasks that is typically performed in return for money. Contract work and project work often contain “jobs” that have to be done, usually on a fixed-term basis (even if they are repeated over many months and even years). Individuals tend to talk about their work as “just a job” when it doesn’t give them much long-term career satisfaction.

An “occupation” is a wide category of jobs with similar characteristics. In other words, an occupation is a broad title for what someone does on a continual basis. This means that all of their work tends to fit into a professional category that most people recognize. There are many examples in this category but some might be an accountant, doctor, engineer, nurse, plumber, police officer, scientist or teacher. As you can see, most occupations are fairly well-understood in concept, if not specific terms, and there is therefore lots of good information to be gathered on them (online, for example) as a future career option. Job satisfaction is often greater in an occupational role, but in modern times, it is far less likely than it used to be that people stay in only one occupation. Today, many of us will change occupations several times in our lives.

Finally, a “career” is a lifetime journey of building and making good use of your skills, knowledge and experiences (wherever these are invested). Put another way, a career is a period of long-term employment usually in a given area or industry. An individual will therefore typically spend many years in an area or industry and perform what may be several different roles. A career is consequently similar to an occupation but is often much broader, as it may involve several linked occupational jobs in the same or similar fields. For example, a doctor might start as a resident at a hospital, become a surgeon, act as a specialist, become a medical director and finally become a hospital administrator. These are four very directly linked occupations but can be considered a career in the medical field.

Of course, in a more general sense, there is nothing stopping individuals from pursuing quite a varied career in which he or she starts as an accountant for instance, works his or her way up to a Chief Financial Officer, later becoming a Chief Executive. S/he may even end his or her career on the board of an entirely different company in an unfamiliar field — still very much a career!

So in summary, a job is work for which you receive pay, an occupation is a range of jobs with similar characteristics and finally a career is a lifetime of making good use of your skills, knowledge and experiences.

Why does it matter?

If you simply want a job, you may be happy to collect your money as a return for the hours you put in and not worry that much about where it may lead you in the future. Both younger and older employees often feel that this is entirely acceptable, as they either want to gain some experience for their résumé or have to earn money to fund their out-of-work activities or interests. However, as soon as you start to think about other issues such as greater job interest, growth, learning and development, and collaboration opportunities, you are starting to think in more occupational terms (a field of activity in which you might flourish) and career terms (where one job may well lead to another that you may enjoy even more). For this reason, we will be examining how to look at occupations and careers that provide the greatest potential for enjoyment for individuals. And in order to do this we first have to know quite a lot about ourselves.

Auto Transport & Car Shipping Industry Exposed

Auto transport industry is run by 90% by the brokers! The majority of auto transport companies don’t own car trailers. They don’t have the staff or budget to market themselves to the public or the customer service team to provide support to their clients. They typically rely on word of mouth or local advertising to get the business. Carriers deeply rely on the brokers to fill up their trucks and keep them moving.

Auto transport brokers have access to hundreds of transporters and can generally accommodate you on any location you may need to get your car picked up or delivered to. Working with a reputable broker may help you get a better price or find a company you wouldn’t otherwise find on your own. The broker may also provide you with a more competitive price quote and offer you better support. Many of the drivers are one man operations or are under-staffed to provide you with quality customer service.

How the auto transport industry works?

When you get a quote from different companies/brokers – they all compete for your business. But the reality is you are actually bidding for the drivers to move your car. If your quote is too low, you car will not be picked or it may take few weeks for the delivery.

Here is an example on how this works: let’s say the route is (NJ to FL). There is usually 20-40 cars waiting to be picked up on the dispatch board which is used by all truckers in the industry. They are all priced from high to low. The drivers will be more attracted to loads that are paying more. So if you picked the lowest quote and there are 10 cars all quoted higher on the list, your car will be sitting at your driveway for awhile. Your load will be the last to get picked up, or you simply may never get a driver assigned while a dishonest broker promises you the world and takes your money.

How to get the right auto transport quote?

In the industry where money talks – your budget will determine the price to get your vehicle picked up and delivered. Choosing the lowest car transport rates is not always recommended. We constantly hear complaints from consumers who first dealt with low balled quotes and than went with a higher quote – got their vehicles picked up with 2-4 business days.

Search Google for “auto transport quotes”, “car transport rates”, or “car shipping quotes” and checkout various auto transport company websites. Get quotes from individual companies, or comparison sites and compare rates. You can check the company’s track record on sites like Transport Reviews.

How to Sell Scrap Metal

Scrap metal recycling is a wonderful resource for anyone who wishes to get rid of junk and make some fast cash at the same time. It is also a terrific environmentally-friendly practice that will make you feel good about your contribution! If you have some old scrap metal or metal junk laying around, learn how to sell it for cash. So long as you select the proper items and choose the right company to do business with, you can make a lucrative profit well worth any effort it takes to get the transaction done. Continue reading to learn the easy steps for selling scrap metal for cash in your town.

Metal to Recycle

The first step is finding metal to recycle. All metal is recyclable, so this is quite easy. Furthermore, there are many other commodities made with large amounts of metal that can be recycled too. These items typically deliver higher payouts too. These include cars, trucks, boats, jet skis, ATVs, golf carts, hover boards, computers, cell phones, televisions, stereos, electrical wiring, sheet metal, large batteries, appliances, power tools, construction equipment, farming equipment, auto parts, and anything motorized or once motorized.

Gather all the items around your house or in your storage unit and determine which ones are ready to be junked or sold for cash. You do not have disassemble anything or take anything apart to sell it for its scrap metal. Instead, just more onto the next step: finding a quality scrapper near you!

The next step is to find and contact a local scrapper to do business with. There are many places that will take your scrap metal, and most even pay cash; but it is important to choose a reputable and experienced company that specializes in recycling scrap metal. Contact a local scrap metal recycling company that has been in business for many years and retains a good-standing reputation among past clientele. They are likely to do the best business in terms of flexibility, convenience, honesty, and profitability.

Once you have chosen a reputable scrap metal recycler, just follow these steps below!

1. Call the scrap metal recycling office.

2. Request a free, over-the-phone estimate.

3. If you accept their offer, schedule a time for them to pick up your materials. They should come right to you and pay you on the spot. If they cannot do this for you, they are probably not the most established or reputable company.

4. If you are unsure about accepting the offer, ask them for their location details and a time to have your items assessed on-site. They should have innovative weight scales to provide accurate measurements. You will need to drive your materials to them in this case.

5. If you are selling a junk car, be sure to have your title ready for transfer. If you do not have the title, apply for a duplicate with your BMV, or ask the recycling company if you can provide your registration and drivers’ license as proof of ownership.

Creakic Review – Can a Medical Student and Patent Sleuth Give a Thumbs-Up?

Creakic reviews are fairly thick on the ground these days, but from what I can see most of them are hype. So I’ve set out to take a really good look at this new booster, tell you what the manufacturer, MuscleTech claims, and then give you my own review conclusion.

So, first stop is the patent office, and sure enough, just like MuscleTech says, there are two US patents on Creakic. (#6,136,339 and #6,100,287)

This is a good thing. Patents cost a reasonable amount of money and there are lawyer’s fees to factor in on top of the government charges. This means the manufacturer of Creakic has had enough commitment to patent his product. He at least has confidence in it and must be expecting the market to accept his product. So it has credibility.

Also, the patents indicate that the supplement is groundbreaking. Patents are taken out on novel, as-yet-undiscovered ways of doing things. So from the simple fact that it has two patents, we can assume Creakic has come out of some careful, distinctive science. Which is also good.

Actually, leaving the patent office and moving to the lab for the next part of the Creakic review, it doesn’t take too long to figure out why MuscleTech was prepared to take the patents out.

It is the first, and I understand the only, muscle “receptor hyperactivator”!

My daughter is a micro biology graduate, and is currently getting near the end of her six year medical degree, training to be a doctor. Over the years, listening to her present scientific research papers and talk about her bio and med studies, I have become aware of the importance of receptors. In the case of Creakic receptors are targeted and turned on. The supplement counters the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and makes it possible for gains in muscle size, strength, and performance.

People like my daughter, and serious body builders, have known about ROS for quite a while.

ROS are nasty, toxic molecules which accumulate in your body as things like superoxide anions, hydroxyl radicals, singlet oxygen, hypochlorous acid, hydrogen peroxide and peroxynitrite. And each time a bodybuilder pushes through their training routine the levels of ROS rise. Seems there is nothing one can do about this as they exercise.

The effect of the these toxins flooding the system is to weaken the muscle membrane itself. The basic strength of the structure is affected. So the normal cell-receptor functions, and the signals they send out, are interrupted. Muscle creatine absorption is less then optimal and muscle growth is limited.

For a bodybuilder, of course, this is critical. They will probably welcome a product like Creakic, which can lessen the deadening affects of ROS.

MuscleTech claims that it’s new supplement is the only creatine tablet which will counter ROS and set you up with an optimal cellular environment for maximum muscle creatine absorption. That ought to give you maximum muscle growth.

So, what is my conclusion? Will I believe the manufacturer, the patent office and my resident medical student? Will myCreakic review recommend the supplement?

In a word — Yes.

I am cautiously optimistic, because this new product — and only this one — will attack ROS and give you the right cell-level environment for muscle growth. It’s backed by science and the manufacturer’s commitment is reflected in its patents.

Of course if you exercise you will bulk up your muscles. Even without creatine tables like Creakic, you will get size and strength. You don’t need my Creakic review to know this. But competitive bodybuilding is all about those tiny improvements which deliver the better-then-you body in the competition ring. The Muscle Tech supplement gives you the chance to secure those improvements for yourself.

So my Creakic review has ended on the ‘recommend’ side. Get a few months’ supply — and let me know how it works for you.

Comparison Of Think And Grow Rich And The Science Of Getting Rich

Getting rich seems to be a most elusive and most difficult catch to make. Many have written about ways to get rich in the desire to present this seemingly difficult endeavor appear reachable. While many of these works present many different ideas, sometimes one can get lost in quagmire of suggestions and prescriptions that ends up in making the issue even more complicated.

Two works on this topic, however, stand out from the rest because of one significant reason. They actually make things simple even to the point of presenting the law of success in 16 lessons or so. These works are the Science of Getting Rich and Law of Success/Think of Grow Rich written by Wattles and Hill respectively.

Though written some years apart and though each work has its own unique presentation, they actually supplement each other. They make the same principles surface while presenting them in their own special, distinctive and exceptional way. The Science of Getting Rich starts by telling everyone that he has the right to get rich but these calls for a systematic approach which may be called the science of getting rich.

Think and Grow Rich argues that getting rich is a definite chief aim, a right so to speak, and it calls for a systematic approach as well, called the law of the mastermind. It now is a matter of recognizing the path to getting rich. Wattles first talks of the first principles in the science of getting rich and soon enough goes on to list the value one must look into. He talks of increasing life, gratitude, thinking in the certain way, how to use the will, acting in the certain way, getting into the right business and ends with the impression of increase, the advance of man and some precautions and concluding observations.

Minus the final lesson which summarizes the points, Wattles discusses the science of getting rich in 16 lessons. Hill plunges at once to the values one must foster to get rich which, he says, include self confidence, habit of saving, initiative and leadership, imagination, enthusiasm, self control, getting more than paid for, pleasing personality, accurate thinking, accurate thinking, concentration, cooperation, profiting by failure, and tolerance. He ends with the golden rule. He basically presents the law of success in 16 lessons.

The law of success in 16 lessons is the significant specific difference which may be forwarded as far as these two successful books are concerned. The 16 lessons actually represent the simplification of an otherwise difficult task anyone wanting to succeed in getting rich faces and sometime ends up fearing. Simplification is key to both works by Wattles and Hill. Simplification means making their prescriptions reachable and realistic. Simplification ultimately means success. Simplification means getting rich.

In the last analysis, Wattles and Hill therefore are declaring the same basic point. There is nothing complicated in the path to getting rich. Everything is within reach by anyone serious enough to have that desire to get rich shown by the willingness to do something about it. Wallace calls it a science. Hill calls it the law of the mastermind. Both are systematic approaches simple and succinct to follow.

There is no long-winding path to thread, only a brief, direct to the point road to success. Getting rich comes as a result of doing the right things at the right time. One who does the right things gets rich. One who does not do the right things, even if he keeps on exerting effort, will remain poor. This is not based on anything beyond one’s reach. The path to getting rich however starts with getting to know how to simplify everything and how to focus one’s sight in the systematic run towards success.

There will be no need for many things to do. It is clear from the suggestions made in these two works that by doing exactly what they prescribe, success is inevitable. This is what makes things simple. Just do what is said. The two masterpieces clearly outline in very simple 16 lessons the qualities which one must possess in order to achieve success. It is all a matter of knowing what these qualities are. Or perhaps it’s a matter of seeing how simple things really are.

Is Survival A Natural Human Instinct?

The world is not a safe place. There are numerous natural and man-made disasters which affect individuals and groups of people daily. While human beings often die in these catastrophes, you will still hear amazing tales of unlikely survival. In simple terms, regular human beings are able to stay alive in the most extraordinary and unusual circumstances.

This phenomenon has happened countless times and continues to puzzle people. Is it the natural instinct of humans to keep living? Is determination the driving force for disaster survival? Why and what for do people fight so hard to survive? Why do some people survive under unlikely circumstances while others die in less dire situations?

The famous evolution expert, Charles Darwin, presented concrete evidence-based theories on the survival of creatures. This scientist proved in the 1800 that natural selection and survival are intertwined. Natural selection is a simple theory which emphasizes on one unshakable concept: only the strong survive.

Simply speaking, every form of life is exposed to constant danger because none is supreme in the food chain or over natural disasters. When a disaster strikes, the weakest in the population will die. The strong will continue living and passing on their genes to the next generation. As a result, the particular species is able to keep thriving and overcoming challenges. This simple concept of natural selection can help us understand if human beings really have a natural predisposition to keep surviving against all odds. In this short discussion, we will examine the human survival instincts which have managed to keep the species going for millenniums.

The most obvious hard-wired instinct for survival is manifested in form of the fight-or-flight response. This physiological reaction occurs if a person senses the threat to their survival or any harmful attack or event. As implied, this is a biological response which helps a person in adverse situations either fight or flee from the danger.

The reaction begins in the brain’s amygdala which in turn triggers the hypothalamus gland. This process is also followed by the secretion of the ACT hormone. This hormone triggers the adrenal glands to produce epinephrine or adrenaline and cortisol. When these biochemical secretions are released, they help the body prepare for violent muscle action.

In simple terms, the hormones will cause an acceleration of physiological functions which will be useful when fighting or fleeing. For example, heart and lung action will accelerate in order to supply the body with oxygen for muscle action. Metabolic resources such as stored glucose and fats will be liberated to provide sufficient energy. Awareness of the surroundings and vision also improves.

In general, the body will also limit the resources to parts of the body that are not required for immediate survival. For instance, digestion in the upper stomach and intestines will slow down or stop. There will be inhibition of tear and saliva production as well as the bladder might relax and other sphincter muscles will be affected.

When a person is in danger, the fight-or-flight response will kick in. Some people will have unusual strength to fight the source of peril while others will have the supernatural ability to flee from the scene. Often, this is known as hysterical strength because it goes beyond the normal bounds due to the specific situation. The fight and flight response is particularly valuable when fighting for family. For example, mothers will be able to lift a car when their children are in danger. A father will run into a flaming building despite the danger to save his family.

The concept of opposites attracting is more than a fancy theory. In a certain experiment, it was proven that people choose partners who will ensure the survival of their genes. Human beings are built differently at a genetic level, including their level of immunity. People with lower immunity are more prone to sickness and death in case of adverse situations.

If an individual chooses a partner with the same genetic code for immunity, their child is likely to be vulnerable to multiple diseases. In ideal circumstances, one will choose a partner with opposite or at least different immune strengths than them. This will allow their child to have a better chance of surviving when exposed to dangerous situations.

So, how do humans recognize the right partner? According to the BBC show Human Instinct, it is all in the nose. In their experiment, a man was exposed to the natural scent of six women, sight unseen. The smells that he found to be most appealing belonged to women who did not share the genes linked to the immune system. This phenomenon is designed to create the best family unit.

There are other intrinsic survival instincts which help individuals and the entire human race continue surviving. For example, human babies are born without any form of defense against threats to their existence. However, they are able to convey their needs by crying in different volumes and pitches to convey their desires. Also, babies have almost universal appeal to people because of their general cuteness and adorable. This phenomenon helps elicit a care-giving response in people ensuring their continued survival. It is theorized that cuter babies have an advantage in survival.

People are also hardwired to avoid poisonous foods which could threaten survival. As an adult, one has the ability to understand poison in a logical way, mostly. However, babies can only rely on instinct to determine what is safe. That is why babies will reject bitter food and choose sweet energy-giving foods.

Human instincts are designed to promote survival, but ultimately, our connections to family, children and other relations provide the strength to fight unbeatable odds.

Plan, prepare, protect, get through, hold on, hold out, make it, and keep body, soul and family together. You need a plan to prepare and to protect yourself and your family. Survival is our Strategy!”

Career Warfare – A Book Summary

It is a tough and competitive business environment you

live and it is getting more and more difficult to achieve

your goals. You have to stand out among your colleagues

and competitors. You have to work hard for career

advancement, and better compensation.

Whether you are a senior executive, an entrepreneur or

an employee, this book will show you the best way to

succeed, accomplish your personal and career goals,

outshine your competition and differentiate yourself

from the pack. David F. D’Alessandro shows you how to

stand out from the crowd by developing your own

“personal brand”; and provides valuable lessons in

the etiquette of reputation building.

What is Personal Brand?

You need to realize that success does not only come

from hard work and appropriately playing the part.

To be successful in business and in your career, you

must be able to distinguish yourself from the rest of

the pack – you need to develop, build and defend your

reputation.

Personal branding is a way you manage your career or

business. It is a way of communicating that makes you

different and special. By using these qualities you

can distinguish yourself from your peers so that you

can expand your success.

There are 10 rules you can follow for building a

successful personal brand and keeping it:

Rule 1: Try to Look Beyond Your Own Navel – The biggest

obstacle in building a positive personal brand is your

own ego. In order to develop an attractive personal

brand, you need to have self-respect and you need

to respect the people around you.

Rule 2: Like It or Not, Your Boss is the Coauthor of

Your Brand – You must realize and accept the fact that

early on in your career, your boss will reap most of

the rewards for ideas you give, money that you brought

in, etc. This is how the corporate world operates. Do

not fight the power structure. Instead learn how to

play and live by it.

Rule 3: Put Your Boss on the Couch – Not all bosses

will help you. It is best that you recognize what type

of personality your boss has so that you would realize

what advantages and disadvantages this person can

cause to your brand.

Rule 4: Learn Which One is the Pickle Fork – Good manners

are crucial in developing and enhancing your personal

brand. Manners are about consideration and respect,

knowledge and patience. Practice good business etiquette.

Rule 5: Kenny Rogers is Right – While it is important

for you to seize the opportunity to build your brand,

it is equally crucial to know what battles to take. Know

when to keep on fighting and when to move fold.

Rule 6: It’s Always Show Time – You must realize that

reputations are not usually made by big events –

sometimes it is those big events that smear your brand.

What builds your reputation is your day-to-day

behavior in the business setting, such as how you deal

with people, how you make decisions, your work habits,

etc.

Rule 7: Make the Right Enemies – The best personal brands

include courtesy, fairness, tolerance, self-respect and

having good and proper manners. However, a small amount

of ruthlessness is good for your brand. Your reputation

will not suffer much if you fight your enemies,

but it will suffer if you lose your self-respect.

Rule 8: Try Not To Be Swallowed By the Bubble – Once you

are successful in building your brand and is rising in the

ranks, do not lose sight of the forest. Do not be too

full of yourself that you will be swallowed by success.

It is bad for your humanity, and bad for your career.

Rule 9: The Higher You Fly, the More You Will Be Shot

At – Everybody makes mistakes. The higher you are in the

ladder of success, the more likely that your mistakes

will be highlighted. Accept the fact that bad press comes

with prominence in any field.

Rule 10: Everybody Coulda Been a Contender; Make Sure You

Stay One – Set yourself to be distinct from your peers.

Since you are constantly being compared to your peers,

don’t be afraid to offer something unique or distinctive.

Don’t give up easily. Don’t throw in the towel immediately

because of a setback or two. Learn from your mistakes and

turn it into an opportunity. Don’t lie, cheat or

steal. Be cautious of the reputation you are building.
